2017 marks my 36th year at Heron Foods. I joined in 1981 as a Factory Butcher on a Youth Training Scheme. My career since has flourished – I passed my driving test and later gained my HGV Class 1 licence and became a Delivery Driver. It was great; I carried out daily deliveries to stores around the region.
The experience gave me great insight into how the logistics worked. I knew I could offer more and I felt the knowledge I had gained would help develop the Transport Office and warehouse operation. Heron supported me and soon after I became Transport Manager, I passed a Certificate of Professional Competence.
Heron have helped me develop my knowledge and provided training, opportunities and promotions. If they see talent they like to keep it – great people give the company a real advantage.
